Meet Brocky, my 1 year and 4 month old Maltese.  He's fully grown and just hit 5lbs exactly, so he's a little on the smaller side.  He's my first Maltese, I grew up with cocker spaniels and labs.  He's just about perfect.  I love the breed and I'd back the breeder up to anyone looking in the northern Cali area.  I actually found the breeder after getting some advice from this lj group, so thanks to the people that helped me out!  Anyway, I'm in a lot of the pictures, sorry.  A lot of my favorite pictures just had me in them.

Also, I need advice from my fellow Maltese owners.  My Brocky has been very healthy, he's gotten all of his shots and he's neutered.  But he's not even 1 1/2 yet and he's already having teeth problems.  I brush them about once a week since I noticed this problem like 6 months ago, but I'm still worried.  I feel like they're rotting and I am planning on talking to my vet again about this since last time they just advised me to brush them.  But I know this is a common problem in their breed and I wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem and was able to solve it.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I don't want him to be toothless at 3 years old.  He's my baby.

Oh, and, people need to post more pictures.  Maltese are now my favorite little doggies ever and I 'd love to see all your babies.

So last night I was going through last winter's bag of ideas for winter dog hats and I found this funny red corduroy one which Stewie just loves to wear. I always laugh so hard when he wears this one but it poses a good question for this season's line of winter-wear....

QUESTION:
What is in more of demand by the customer???
a) Dog hats with cute lil teddy ears on the side or
b) Dog hats with lil slits for the pet's real ears to poke out of?

Help me out here... Let's put it to a VOTE!

5 puppy mill rescues in need! [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:01 pm]
Maltese Dogs

I volunteer for an animal rescue and we recently took in 5 rescued Maltese.  These poor babies have been bred their whole lives in a puppy mill in southern, rural Indiana.  They have had countless puppies to be shipped and sold in stores like Uncle Bills, Petland, etc.  They, along with 6 other dogs (of other breeds), were rescued in hopes to find the forever, loving homes they've always deserved.  As you can see by their photos, they're all in TERRIBLE SHAPE!  Covered in urine and feces, hair matted, and fingernails unkempt, these babies have never seen a vet, felt carpet, or green grass under their feet.  They've lived in cramped, wire cages their whole lives.  Once cleared by OUR veterinarian, they will all need loving homes.

As you can imagine, the costs incurred on our rescue by taking in these precious pups are sky high.  The economy is in terrible shape and we've been struggling as it is.  We are a 501(c)3 non profit rescue and any donations you could spare towards their cause would be INCREDIBLY appreciated.  Without us, these dogs would be forced to live out the rest of their lives pregnant, neglected, and cruelly treated.  Please go to http://www.rescuefarm.org and click on the "Make a Donation" button.  Even if you can spare a dollar, it will help tremendously!

Even better than donating, if you have room in your home and would like to adopt one of these precious, misfortuned pups, that would be fantastic!  You can see their petfinder pages, as well as get our contact information by clicking on their photos above.  We are in Indiana but allow out of state adoptions so please CONTACT US!

Thanks so much,
Rescue Farm

new social network for pet lovers [Jun. 16th, 2008|07:07 pm]

Hey guys, I thought you all might be really interested in ZooToo.com which is a new social network for animal lovers (just like I said in the subject haha). I actually found my groomer with it using their pet services function. So if you're like me and have a dog AND a cat, this is a place where you can put them (and other kinds of pets/animals) up in your own zoo. there's also pet news, meet-up groups, product reviews by members, and tons of other stuff.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm looking to gain friends on there! OH and i almost forgot to mention that they do good for the animal community by making over shelters and giving a portion of the ad rev gained by people being on the site to shelters. i think that the more you use the site/invite people/make friends, the more $$ goes to the shelter of your choice... hence my motivation to get friends!!!!

Add me!!!!
